Refurbishing for a
Better Tomorrow
Despite increasing awareness about the need to stem the growing tide of e-waste worldwide, few people in Ontario know where to take electronics once they've reached their end of life, and still fewer know about refurbishing programs, which maintain, update, and restore electronics so that they can be repurposed or donated.
Electronics Recycling and
the Environment
As technology evolves, the means by which end of life
electronics are disposed of need also evolve. Environmental
concerns have become more apparent as of late. The effects of
pollution are devastating. Most electronics contain hazardous
materials such as lead, phosphorous, cadmium, barium and
mercury. When dumped into landfills these may be released into
the environment. Proper disposal of e-waste helps prevent this
from happening and also allows for the reuse of equipment and
the recovery of materials such as steel, glass, aluminum and
plastic.
